The boogYman
Last week I had a nightmare where a stranger chased me into my car outside of the Aldi in Wollongong. I thought I had escaped him until an arm raised up from under the driver’s seat and tried to grab me. I woke up clutching my own fingers so hard, I was worried it was about to break them.
This is the essence of my paintings. Since I was a child. I have had recurring nightmares and sleep paralysis. I’m constantly under assault, seen things that can never be on unseen and died more times that I can count and yet when I wake up the only person I can blame is myself. Every single aspect of my nightmares is me. I’m every person I see in my sleep. I’m the shifting buildings and distorted memories.
I’m the victim in the horror movie. I am also the bogeyman
